Regardless of the type of building, one of the key and important parts of it is the roof. The microclimate of all internal premises depends on it. If the roof is made of poor-quality materials or with a violation of technology, the house will not be protected from moisture and low temperatures to the desired extent. The best option is ceramic tiles. This is a time-tested material that matches modern technology.
Production method and advantages
Such a shingle made of high-grade clay is produced with the addition of components that increase the plasticity of the raw material and impart additional properties to the finished material. This approach makes it possible to produce high-quality shingles at an affordable price, since new technologies have greatly simplified production and made the creation of elements of the desired shape less costly.
Elements of the tile are exactly docked to each other and exactly fit in shape. The surface of the roof is neat, without any drops and does not allow moisture to pass through.
In the process of production, the finished raw materials are poured into special shapes of the right size and geometry, after which the workpiece is fired at a very high temperature. Thanks to firing, the finished material receives the same properties as the baked brick. Complete resistance to moisture, treated clay does not collapse from the effects of rain and snow even after years. In addition, it is resistant to alkaline and acidic solutions, as well as to physical influences, that is, it does not break and does not crack from blows.
There are a lot of different brands and forms of ceramic tiles, but three of them are the most popular:
- S-form. This brand consists of identical elements having a section resembling the letter S. This shape creates a surface that looks from the outside as small waves with equal lift and extension. The water on such a roof does not stay in the elements of the shingles and immediately drains into the sink. This brand is suitable for roofs with a slope of 20 degrees and above.
- Beaver Tail. An unusual variety with the shape of elements resembling the outwardly beaver tail, that is, a semicircular one at one end. It is used on complex roofs with atypical geometry, for example, a cone. Such a tile is laid in a two-layer way, which increases the total weight of the roof, so the roof construction must have reinforcement.
- Munchunn. This brand consists of two types of elements of different shapes. Each of them looks like a half of a longitudinal split cylinder. They are attached to each other with the help of special clamps, included in the kit, or steel wire in case of emergency. It is used on roofs with a radius shape and a slope of 40 degrees and above.
How to determine the quality of the material?
In the case of natural ceramics, the quality indicator is color. It should be deep burgundy with an admixture of a brown shade. This color is acquired by natural clay of higher grades in the process of roasting because of the presence of iron in its composition.
Under the influence of high temperature it is oxidized, because of which the tile acquires the color of the soil on the mars or the Martian shade.
