What is a cluster?
Cluster hard disk (hard drive) is the minimal elementary data storage unit. A cluster can consist of several sectors. This can be seen more clearly by looking at the structure of the hard disk:
Cluster - very fashionable now in the news a word, borrowed from the English language.
It denotes a group, the accumulation of any homogeneous elements.
Previously, this word could be heard, basically, only from the lips of computer specialists, they have a cluster - a group of sectors on the surface of a hard (or flexible, unimportant) magnetic disk,
and now they are designated all in the world: a group of enterprises, a group of buildings, structures and so on.
It is the union of any homogeneous elements. This association can be considered as a separate unit with its own properties. Also, a cluster is a set of search results related to a single topic.
Cluster is several combined sectors on a logical level.
The cluster size is defaulted to 4 KB.
Sector hard drives have, as a rule, a small information volume - just 512 bytes. Combine sectors to reduce fragmentation of data, which results in faster write and read speed.
The advantage of a large amount of cluster in the speed of writing and reading data.
And the disadvantage is that the minimum addressable element is the cluster volume, i.e. in a partially occupied cluster, nothing more can be written.
Cluster on the hard disk is a unit of information storage on the hard disk. You can also call it "quot; cell". Programs, files, etc., are written to these cells.
Even clusters are groups (clusters) of computers, which are connected with each other by communication channels at high speed and represent a single computational resource.
Also, a cluster can be called a group of serverswhich are logically related to each other and which are also used as a single resource.
Cluster is also called database, because they combine data from a variety of tables, and they speed up the implementation of complex, voluminous requests.
The picture shows how (approximately) the clusters look. Each separate color indicates files that are interrelated with each other. For example, red clusters are scattered here on different parts of the hard disk, which means that file quot; fragmentedquot; and needs to be quot; defragmented "quot;.
